Preparing for a New Life

Stephanie Harris says she is grateful for the help she received from Catholic Charities West Virginia.

Stephanie Harris enrolled in classes at the Catholic Charities Community Center of Huntington when she was eight months pregnant and living at a recovery house. She did not have many of the items expectant parents excitedly prepare. Our team went to work to break down barriers and determine the best course of action to help Stephanie reach her goals.

We were able to help Stephanie apply for benefits and receive emergency utility assistance. We connected her with community partners, such as RESTORE/Habitat for Humanity, as well as “New Beginnings,” a Christian organization that helps new mothers with counseling, babysitting and car seats. Sacred Heart Church in Huntington provided over $200 worth of baby items.

Following the birth of her son, CCWVa was able to connect Stephanie to an employment opportunity that allows her to work from home while caring for her new baby boy. Stephanie and her son are thriving!
