Cuisine with a Cause to Raise Funds for Catholic Charities West Virginia’s Efforts in Eastern Panhandle

Catholic Charities West Virginia (CCWVa) Eastern Region will hold its fourth annual Cuisine with a Cause Sept. 14 to support the organization’s mission in the Eastern Panhandle.

This community gala will be held at the Purple Iris at Hartwood in Martinsburg, W.Va., and will include cuisine from local chefs along with silent and live auctions. Trina Bartlett, director of CCWVa Eastern Region, said that all of the funds raised through the gala will directly support CCWVa Eastern Region’s services, especially its emergency assistance, the Family Resource Center and case management. The Eastern Region of CCWVa covers Berkeley, Jefferson, Morgan, Hampshire, Hardy, Grant and Mineral counties.

“We really hope people will come out for what will be a fun evening. It’s good food, good company and a good cause,” Bartlett said. “Everything that we raise that evening stays here within our region.”

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for cocktails and the silent auction. Auction items include a trip to Disney World, a stay at a bed and breakfast, artwork and a variety of rings, to name a few. Participants will also have a chance to sample food from 10 restaurants in the area, including The Purple Iris; the Bavarian Inn, with traditional German food; the Asian Garden, offering sushi and more; Casa Visone, with Italian food; and the Mediterranean Café; among others.

Leading the gala committee again this year is Ed Wilson. “I am amazed at how effective and efficient Catholic Charities is in delivery of direct service to those in need,” Wilson said. “That is why I continue to support CCWVa.”

The gala, Bartlett said, has grown every year since its inception, starting out small and evolving into an event that was attended by 250 people last year and raising more than $20,000. CCWVa Eastern Region officials credit much of the success of the gala to the support from donors and participating restaurants.

“We really could not do this without them,” said Siobhan Bertone, program assistant at CCWVa Eastern Region. “Their support has been tremendous.”

Tickets for the gala are $45 per person, $80 for a couple and $300 for a table of eight. Those interested in attending may register by calling (304) 367-8837 or by visiting https://catholiccharitieswv.org/events/fourth-annual-cuisine-cause/.
