Join Catholic Charities West Virginia for an Inspirational Evening in Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Catholic Charities West Virginia’s (CCWVa) Fourth Annual Autumn Gathering in Charleston, W.Va., will be held Sept. 26. Hosted by Most Rev. Michael J. Bransfield, Mass will take place at 5:30 p.m. at the Basilica of the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Charleston with a reception and dinner to follow at the Embassy Suites. The renowned Vatican expert, journalist and author John L. Allen, Jr., is this year’s keynote speaker.

Allen is the associate editor at the Boston Globe and serves as senior Vatican analyst for CNN. He has a rich history of covering the papacy and has written several books, including “All the Pope’s Men” and “10 Things Pope Francis Wants You to Know.”  Patti Phillips, director of Development and Marketing for CCWVa, said, “We are thrilled to have keynote speaker John L. Allen, Jr., Vatican expert and Boston Globe associate editor.  Mr. Allen has a gift in relaying the formality and complex issues of the worldwide Catholic Church in a humorous and down-to-earth manner.”

Proceeds from the event support CCWVa’s Western and Parkersburg Regions and includes Work Camps, WellnessWorks food pantries and Mobile Outreach in addition to statewide services of Migration and Refugee Services and Homemaker and Case Management Services for the elderly and adult disabled. These services and programs provide basic human needs to the poor and vulnerable, advocate for social justice and provide compassion and relief from isolation and despair.
