Center for Community Learning and Advancement to Hold Open House

Catholic Charities West Virginia (CCWVa) will host a community open house at its adult learning center in Huntington, W.Va. on April 11, 2019.

The open house will be held at the Center for Community Learning and Advancement (CCLA) located at 901 5th Ave. in downtown Huntington. The event begins at 6 p.m. and concludes at 8 p.m.

“We would like to invite the community to see our facility, talk with current and former learners, and our staff and volunteers to learn more about the positive changes that are happening every day at the center,” said Emily Robinson, CCWVa Western Regional Director.

The CCLA aims to change the system of poverty through adult learning. The center provides courses and services that help learners prepare for entry into the workforce, the military, or higher education.

Learners may also enroll to brush up on skills to obtain a better job. Once learners complete their studies at CCLA, they are not only better prepared for work or higher education, they also learn skills to help them with life in general.

“When people hear ‘adult education,’ they think about high school equivalency diplomas, but the goals of our program are much broader than that,” said Megan Shoub, CCLA Instructor.

“The CCLA supports learners all along their career pathways, whether that includes earning an High School Equivalency diploma, becoming a certified Microsoft Office Specialist, passing the ASVAB and entering the military, or just brushing up some skills before starting college courses,” said Shoub.

The open house is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided.
