Special Appeal to Support Services for the Elderly

Special Appeal to Support Services for the Elderly

WHEELING, W.Va. — Catholic Charities West Virginia (CCWVa) is making a special appeal to support the urgent needs of the elderly in West Virginia. The appeal asks to honor those who have paved the way in their most challenging years. The goal is $30,000 and will run from now until Fathers Day, June 21. Funds raised will support the continued development of quality programs and direct service for the elderly in the state.

“Our elderly neighbors are many times living in isolation which is a distinct kind of poverty,” emphasized Patti Phillips, director of Development and Marketing for Catholic Charities West Virginia. “The rural nature of our state makes getting to health care appointments, grocery stores, community events difficult for many, adding fixed incomes, health care issues, diminishing family networks creates isolating circumstances for the elderly.”

Catholic Charities West Virginia has several services that work to alleviate the loneliness, offer nutritional support and meals, and provide quality in-home care to the elderly and loved ones. Phillips continued, “Catholic Charities’ programs and services provide vital assistance, but, more importantly, it is our mission to offer a compassionate smile, a kind word and an open ear in the hopes of alleviating the distress of this poverty.”

Donations can be made online at www.CatholicCharitiesWV.org, by phone at 1-888-900-2989 or by mail to Special Appeal 2015, Catholic Charities West Virginia, 2000 Main Street, Wheeling, WV 26003.
